Adolescents get the opportunity to work with museum professionals to learn what it is like to work in a variety of fields in history and museum studies. These camps are run by both museum educators and content experts to provide participants with authentic museum experiences.
Participants will work with Strawbery Banke’s Archaeologist to learn the techniques for mapping and excavating a real archaeological site. During the week, the group will spend time working with archaeological collection cleaning, investigating and recording artifacts from centuries past.
Explore how a museum creates an exhibit – from research to installation – and then work together to create your own. Tap into the rich historical resources of Portsmouthby visiting local archives and researching items in Strawbery Banke Museum’s collection. Meet cuators, artists and other museum professionals to learn skills nd crafts that you can use to build your exhibit. At the end of the week, you will work with curatorial staff to install your exhibit on the museum site.
